Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 11/04/2001

Number: 1

We (and others in town) have had monarch females loading the backyard A. curassavica with eggs the past few days. Today, we brought in two dozen fourth and fifth instars and then went back and brought in five dozen first, second, and third instars plus three dozen new eggs. There are still monarchs spread out across southeast Texas and along the coast working their way southwestward. The adult monarchs from these eggs and larvae might become part of the coastal overwintering population. Wild A. viridis and A. oenotheroides are still blooming in the area.
