The orange and black parade! November 16, 2001 ... 24 mile
Causeway, Lake Pontchartrain, Bridge ... South from Mandeville
to Metairie, Louisiana ... sunny ... mid 70's: 58 monarchs
counted spread out over the entire span. A week ago over this
bridge: 125 counted, almost all over the first eight miles
around two p.m. Guessing overcast conditions earlier in the
caused a late start. Meanwhile, here in New Orleans, a half
hour away, the milkweed is rife with monarch caterpillars in
our garden.
