Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/27/2001

Number: 1

PS 114 from Belle Harbor in Rockaway planted tulips here at the Study Center this morning. With the help of parents and teacher it was a fun filled day. Mrs. Kirk, who also is Chief of Interpretation in the Park, arranged for each student to get a journal where they will be keeping records of the planting this year. Their teacher, Ms. Borak, is very enthusiastic about doing this project.
This school has had a particularly difficult year. Many neighbors and friends were lost in 9/11. Two weeks ago the plane that came down leaving Kennedy airport landed a few blocks from their homes. One student actually lost his home. They are remarkably resilient and hopeful. Spring is something we all look forward to this year.
An additional donation of 250 bulbs were made by the Holland Bulb Farm to this school. We are working with the community right now deciding where to plant them.
