Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 01/06/2002

Number: 1

Approximately 3500 Monarchs have resided in two trees at the edge of the eucalyptus grove behind our house this year. We've witnessed upwards of 50,000 Monarchs at a time overwintering in these and adjacent trees since we bought the house in 1994. It rarely freezes in the grove. Daytime temperature during their stay, late September to late February, range from 50-70 degrees with occasional dips into the 40s in January. There is a lot of mating activity now and the Monarchs seem much more active this week with daytime temperatures in the low to mid 60s.
