Hummingbird habitat has been in place for 2-years. Hummers usually visit the yard around lunchtime and sometimes before sunset. During late summer 2001, we had a nesting pair visit daily before sunset. They don't hang around long - just eat and fly. Must be nesting in a nearby yard. They usually approach from the southwest and exit northeast.
Hummers don't like the feeders we put out, but prefer the real plants. They are fond of scarlet runner beans (vine) and scarlett sage (bush). We planted two more scarlett sages due to the hummers.
Hope the nesting pair remembers to return. Previously in California, we hosted a young bachelor hummer who guarded his turf from our TV aerial.
Working on finishing a modest butterfly garden in summer 2002. Will interspace some additional hummer plants.
