Large healthy Monarchs stay here on the Nature Trail all winter. They lay eggs on the Tropical Scarlet Milkweed, nectar on year round nectar producing flowers like Pentas, feast on the phytochemicals in our local wildflowers -Blue Mistflower and Late Flowering Boneset (winter bloomer) both of which are Eupatoriums containing important chemicals for all male Milkweed butterflies. (We have found male Queens and Soldiers sleeping over night in large quantities on these plants.)
