Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/14/2002

Number: 1

We found another new egg. Many of our Monarch caterpillars are wandering. We found one halfway up a tree trunk. We found one (forming a J shape) on the hedge around our garden . We cut the branch off and took it into the classroom for observation. The caterpillar changed into a chrysalis at 2:00 p.m. Our two monarchs are still in the garden. They are there almost every day. We saw one of them chasing a Red Admiral butterfly. We think our Monarchs never left the area because it has not been very cold here this year.
