We were astounded to see a robin casually hopping around our backyard near the pond last week. Never before had we seen them so early. We have seen several other robins (or the same one several times) in the days since our first sighting. So far we have only seen one at a time.

Early this past winter we saw huge flocks of robins in a small deciduous forest near a lake and larger forest area about 20 miles west of here. We speculated at the time whether they might overwinter there as the winter was so incredibly mild. Unfortunately, we have not been back since to check on that speculation.
