Two days ago (2/24/02) I saw a brightly colored Monarch in my back yard in Gulf Breeze, FL (S. of Pensacola). Now we are having a blast from the arctic, and temps tonight (2/27)are to be in the teens inland and mid 20s here along the coast.
Before the Feb. 24th sighting, I hadn't seen a monarch for quite awhile. As late Dec. 26 (estimating), I saw a fresh-looking monarch at my still-blooming milkweed. The mild winter may be the reason, despite our having had several nights in the 20s.
