Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/27/2002

Number: 1

I recently read an article about Monarch migration. I was surprised to read that they tend to follow the same routes and even stay at the same places. For what it's worth, I would like to report a sighting I experienced growing up. In the fall of 1967 or 1968, I saw monarchs come into a park in the community of Fairmont Park (La Porte, Tx). They came in masses for over an hour just prior to sundown, and stayed in some oak trees by the swimming pool. Those trees are still there today. The next morning, I checked early and they were gone. It was quite amazing and something I will always remember. I had no idea until recently what I had witnessed.
