We were on winter break during 2/15 - 2/25 and during that time our tulips emerged. Based on the varying sizes of the emerging bulbs our best estimate is that the first one emerged on 2/20. We now have a dirt thermometer and the ground temps have been, at 12:00 noon +/-, 52(Monday) to 55 (Wednesday) degrees beginning 2/25. We have been enjoying a warm spell after several weeks of near freezing weather. We planted an experimental row of Red Emperor tulips 2 months later and only about 3" deep and they are emerging at the same rate as those we planted on 11/1/01!
