The first redwinged blackbird, a male by his exuberant song from the top of his favorite blue spruce, announced his return to our part of Michigan. He proceeded to chase the white throated sparrow,the chickadees, and woodpeckers from the birdfeeder to prove what a tough guy he is. Our house is part of his territory, too. Saw several of his kin calling from fenceposts and neighborhood mail boxes.
