Students and adults at Ferrisburgh Central School have been working on a schoolyard habitat for the last few years. Two large raised beds were planted with flowers and bushes that would be beneficial to butterflies and hummingbirds. Dozens of food and cover bushes and trees were planted. Bluebird nesting boxes were built and installed. Students created brush and stone piles for cover. Adults removed an old culvert which helped to create a vernal pool. Six apple trees were planted last spring and we are hoping to continue the plantings. The habitat is also used as an outdoor classroom for the students.
