Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/09/2002

Number: 1

Wow- what a great wake-up call! This morning at 7:00 I heard the first red-wings of the season, coming from the beaver ponds behind the house. The sun is coming up and the temperature is very warm this morning- last night we had rain. There is still some snow here and there in the forest and on the lawn. The storm from the central US may have brought in a wave of migrants or pushed them to the highway no. 7 area of Ontario. I always consider the song of the red-wings a most welcome sign of spring.
