All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/11/2002

Number: 1

In the past week I have spotted quite a few Canada Geese in pairs getting ready to nest. The areas they usually chose range from uncut grassy ditches to baseball fields, or a factory or an institution's large lawn. Many are returning birds. Nesting is quite a distance from the lake (approx. 1 1/4 miles), and there are no ponds or small creeks close by.
