Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/07/2002

Number: 1

No milkweed up as of yesterday(3/7/02)... over two weeks behind last year now and almost four weeks behind 2000 when there were
blooms on viridis on Valentine's Day. Backyard asperula is
about to push thru the ground, can't find any tuberosa yet, don't
know if it made it.

Cold front that was supposed to miss us should come in tomorrow.
Altus was cutting the brown foliage to the ground to see what will
come back and found two mid sized monarch larvae that were
active ... just nothing to munch on. We have about fifty rooted
cuttings of curassavica to start our milkweed beds over again.
Can see the green down the rows of corn today. The second
freeze hit us worse than the first ... 23 dF was the low in the
backyard.
