Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2002

Number: 1

They may not be from the sanctuaries, but did see two monarchs powerstroking from southwest to northeast. One moving down the street at 4:30 at about five feet then disappearing over the neighbor's house to the north-northeast, large, faded but not transparent. Second at 4:45 was two miles away and following the Lavaca Bay Causeway across the bay, again generally to the north-northeast. Backyard Asclepias curassavica is showing signs that some might recover after the hard freeze a week ago, about a dozen sprouts that are just showing at ground level. No wild milkweed that we can find yet, light northwest wind, 78 dF, clear and dry.
