Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/12/2002

Number: 1

March 12, 2002 I observed a Monarch on North Padre Island in the Padre
Island National Seashore, Nueces County, Texas. This individual was about
20 feet up over the surf and 40-50 feet from the beach. It was bearing up
the island, roughly NNE. I observed it through a 10x42 binoculars at
2:30 p.m. There were no other butterflies around and no others seen on the
beach that day.Corpus Christi is probably the closest city to this sighting.
