Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/20/2002

Number: 1

Today, 20 March 2002, we sighted our first monarch of the season.
This is a surprisingly early sighting for us here in Eastern North
Carolina. The Monarch was bright and fresh looking like it was
newly hatched, could someone locally be raising them?

We reside near Morehead City in Eastern North Carolina on the Neuse
River. It was a beautiful first day of spring with temperatures of
74 degrees and a southwesterly breeze at 14 MPH. Of course the
Monarch was heading in a northerly direction with the wind. If you
plot Lat. Long. we are at 76 degrees 42 minutes west, and 34 degrees
and 57 minutes north.
