We saw a Monarch on 3/19/02, our house -which is very close to Niederwald, Tx - Caldwell county. The butterfly seemed to be in good condition. I couldn't tell which direction it was actually heading as it was circling, flutter, turning every which way... but sort of in the northward direction. Sorry to be so vague.
My 6 year old daughter swears she saw one two days earlier - (same location) but I never caught sight of it and so did not report anything. I will say that she is pretty sharp when it comes to butterflies!
