Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/28/2002

Number: 1

My husband and I were hiking in the Smokies on the Alum Cave Bluff Trail going to the top of Mt. LeConte. We saw the adult Monarch about half way up the trail, at an elevation of around 4,500 - 5,000 ft. around 12:30 in the afternoon.

It certainly LOOKED like a Monarch to both my husband and me. It had the
same colorations and markings. I wasn't able to catch it but I did get
close to it. Is there any other butterfly that would be in that area on
March 28 that ressembles the Monarch that closely? I'm not an expert, by any
means, just a lover of butterflies. :)
