Tulips EMERGED

Date: 03/29/2002

Number: 1

On March 29, 2002, our tulips emerged from the ground. Voles had eaten one of our tulips. We looked at the green leaves and could see the marks where the rodents had chewed through the layers of leaves. Our tulips varied in height, from 1 cm. to 3.5 cm. There are still more tulip bulbs that need to emerge, but we had 21 up. We mentioned the voles. We had such a hard winter, with snow stacked up high all around the school, that rodents made many tunnels under the snow. This was the first year that we have had a tulip bed disturbed by rodents. Last year our tulips emerged on March 12, seventeen days earlier than this year.
