Milkweed (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/11/2002

Number: 1

Several shoots of common milkweed up on the south side of my home. Plants are 3-4 inches tall with two pair of leaves showing. Not much in the way of nector plants yet. Some understory trees in bloom. No monarchs yet but did see an eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly Saturday, April 6th. In the for-what-ever-it's-worth category, the tiger swallowtail is the Virginia state insect.
