Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/16/2002

Number: 1

Two lab groups worked on adjacent fields at Choctaw Trails this afternoon (16 April 2002). One group found milkweed (Asclepias viridis) density to be 2.6 plants per square meter and found 24.6% of the plants had monarch eggs or larvae. The other field had similar milkweed density but the egg count was at 9.3%. At least 10 monarchs were observed in oviposition activity in the two fields during a one hour period. Stem lengths ranged from 4 cm to 28 cm.
