Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/17/2002

Number: 1

Wow! We saw our first Monarch butterfly today, just after we discovered the milkweed shoots peeking out of the ground. It was flying low over the playground at about 12:00 (noon). The 4-year-olds think it was looking for blossoms for nectar or for milkweed to lay eggs. We tried, but we couldn't get close enough to see if it was male or female. It was very faded, but its wings were not torn. There was much shouting and excitement when we saw it! We loved seeing a Monarch again! We've waited a long time since last October!
