Two student groups worked the Choctaw Trails site in southwest Jackson again this afternoon (18 April 2002). About 10 adult females were observed this afternoon; two were captured and they, like all the others seen thus far, were quite tattered. Fresh eggs continue to be found; today's inspection of 300 plants revealed 24 with 1 or more eggs or larvae. The larval count was higher than on previous days with 5 young 1st and 2nd instars observed. Although numerous plants show signs of predation, the recruitment of larvae in the fields remains low.
