Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/30/2002

Number: 1

Wrapup: Caterpillars finally pupated; chrysalis everywhere, on the house, kids' jungle gyms, fence, edges of pots, branches of other plants, trees, etc.

We hatched all but three; they were apparently dead, did not appear to be parasitized. I saw no evidence of this, and examined them carefully. I estimate total hatch at 30 - 35 monarchs.

Adult monarchs continue to inhabit my large back yard in healthy numbers, attracted to a dozen or so large, healthy a. curassavica in bloom, and many large, red pentas, and blue porterweed, which seems to be their favorite nectar source here.
