Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/21/2002

Number: 1

I saw my first monarch this morning. I have been seeing lots of swallowtails flitting around the Flowering Quince and lilac bushes the past week but I rarely see a Monarch in the spring. Usually I see them heading south in the fall. They come down to feed off the purple asters. I have been looking for milkweed plants as I weed so I can leave them but have not seen any yet. I have been increasing habitat for butterflys and hummingbirds but still do not have much for the Monarchs in my yard. I very seldom see milkweed near my area.

No milkweed yet
