Tulips BLOOMED

Date: 04/21/2002

Number: 1

Tulips bloomed over the weekend at Council Elementary School! On Monday we went out to observe the tulips. Now, we have 12 plants remaining. We planted 34 bulbs. We counted 19 that emerged. Again, the rodents have been busy. We can see their tunnels throughout the tulip bed. Not only have they damaged this years bed of tulips, but they truly thinned last years bulbs, too. Still the display of beautiful red blossoms is great to see in the spring.
Last year our tulips bloomed on April 6th. In 2000 they bloomed on April 7, and in 1999 blooming was comparable to this year, with tulips opening on April 22. Our spring has had warm sunny days, as well as cold windy days. Snow can still be seen on the ridge of mountains to the east of town. Students were able to observe tulip growth in the classroom, take digital pictures of their tulips, and keep a journal.
