Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/30/2002

Number: 1

We spotted our first hummingbird of the season last night while having family dinner. I have had my feeder up since April 11, and have been watching since. This was a little later than usual to see our first hummer. It was a small male and a very hungry one at that. Last year we spotted our first hummer on April 21st and near that time has been our usual spotting time each year. I was getting really concerned about not seeing one sooner. Our son who was visiting, spotted the first hummer last year and also spotted the first one this year. He was delighted. We have had many cold nights recently and that concerned me about their well being as they travelled back to our area. I'm ready now to enjoy their antics for the summer!
