Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/06/2002

Number: 1

Monarch chrysalis which pupated 4/26/02 has emerged healthy this date & departed after 10 days. It was a female.
Monarch sightings in my gardens remains high, averaging 6 to 12 per hour. Mating is common; I often find them on the ground, and can pick them up and observe them...with care.
Ovipositing is often observed, but eggs are not to be seen thereafter; ants and wasps are everpresent. First instars are also not to be seen, nor are any more 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th instars.
I must infer the ants and wasps have done them all in.
I have 3 remaining chrysalis to hatch in the next few days; they all appear to be healthy.
