Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/23/2002

Number: 1

My students and I saw the female monarch fly across the pond in our outdoor education center. She landed on the fence post long enough for me to tell she was a female and then off she went on her journey. (I think she was posing for me so I could see if she was male or female!) The temperature was 63*F and there were Wind ~SW at 5mph.It was a fairly sunny day. Lambertville is about 3 miles north of Toledo, Ohio. There is milkweed coming up. It began the last week of April. In my yard it is doing quite well.
This was exciting for my class to see the Monarch since we have raised, tagged and released them. We know that a few actually made it to their Mexican destination!
