Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/27/2002

Number: 1

The Monarch was a fresh female and she was laying eggs on the Common and Butterfly milkweeds in my garden. I collected 49 eggs and there are still
more out there but that is all I can handle.
The low was in the mid-40s and the high in the high 70's. There was not much wind and it was sunny. The previous day had also been fairly nice, compared to the rest of May which was cold, rainy, cloudy.
We first saw her around 1 pm and she was around for a couple of hours, laying more eggs on the plants from which I was removing the leaves with eggs. She did not pay any attention to me. Most of the plants were up less than 2inches with a few up to 6 inches. They are mature plants, 2-3 years old. I never saw her nectar but not much is blooming where I saw her lay eggs.
