Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/30/2002

Number: 1

At about 1:15PM Dr. Lincoln Brower saw one very fresh male monarch adult patrolling the field.... 30 May 2002. Sweet Briar College hay fields with Asclepias syriaca patch growing therein, about 30 inches high. Severely damaged apices by late spring frost about a week ago....

Notes from colleague regarding the frost:

I had a light frost the morning of May 21st 2002 , a heavy, damaging frost the morning of the 22nd, and another light frost the morning of the
23rd. Incredible! May 10th was my previous late record frost, and I
thought that was pretty bad!
