Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/08/2002

Number: 1

I have a Monarch larva nearly ready for the next stage (chrysalis). But sadly I have only found one on my two clumps of milkweed. Are they much fewer in numbers this year. My friend has found several so I will go to her place to see if I can get another one. The people and minister at my church are interested in learning about the Monarch and of course planting milkweed for next year.
I am concerned about a new kind of larva (large numbers) which devour the whole plant leaving only shreds of the plant. They probably devour any eggs or larva from Monarchs. What in the world are they????
