Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/17/2002

Number: 1

A large, moderately faded monarch female was visiting the backyard Asclepias curassavica for several hours today. Checking where she was ovipositing later this afternoon, I did find a few eggs. Their chance of surviving this time of the year here along the Texas mid coast are very slim. We would take her to be one of the summer monarchs that spent the summer along the coast and not a migrant. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds ARE beginning to migrate to the mid coast this week.
