Signs of Fall

Date: 08/27/2002

Number: 1

There is a huge concentration of swallows on my farm today. It has been growing larger by the day. Today there are thousands on the 3 strings of electical wire that pass on the west and north of our farmhouse. They are also on the barn roof, the door ledge of our quonsot and on the old dead wire that goes from our house to the barn that I keep up just for the swallows.
The mix is mostly barn swallows, cliff swallows and tree swallows. There are so many it is impossible to identify any others.
Usually after a peak day like this the concentration will slowly ebb down till only a few staggelers are left after about 1 to 2 weeks.
