Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/30/2002

Number: 1

The weather has been gorgeous here this week = pleasant sunny days to around 80*. My gardens are lush with late summer treasures, the meadow is richly embroidered with purple asters. Lots of lazy Monarchs nectaring around rather indolently. What migration? To where? The fountain in the new garden by the porch splashes just enough water to create a very attractive puddling area for butterflies like Swallowtails and Spicebush butterflies. Evidently, Monarchs get enough moisture and minerals from their floral diets. The Monarch that hangs out in my garden is quite faded. Out in the meadow, I came across a pair that were mating. Don't suppose those eggs will get much chance to hatch. No gatherings around the trees that seem to be "butterfly trees" as of yet. Will check again tonite.
