Have only seen two monarch butterflies in flight in August. Have searched a number of milkweed patches during the last week for caterpillars with no results until my son and his friends found 9 caterpillars in c. 4th instar in a fresh looking patch of milkweed. It's been a very dry summer. Most milkweed looking pretty old and tough.
