We have created a mini-prairie by re-seeding an island in the middle of a parking lot behind the science center at the university with wildflower seeds. The island measures 10x20 meters. Each winter we burn it to keep trees from establishing a foothold. It is about 5 years old now, and has been interesting to see the changes in how different plants dominate from year to year.
