The monarchs have arrived in and around Sidney. There are not as many sited in the usual roosting places, maybe 10 where there were 40 last year. Approximately 5 miles northwest of Sidney we have spotted hundreds of monarchs feeding on goldenrod. The area where we observed the most monarchs is a 20 acre tract of CRP (set aside, unmowed)land. This area also has lots of milkweed plants in the lower areas. We estimate about 25 monarchs were sited at one time in a 10ft. x 10ft area.
We have taken digital photos of monarchs on the goldenrod.
