Virtually no Monarchs here. On 9/12, following passage of a cold front with favorable winds, I went to the open fields where -- in 2001 at about the same date -- there were more migrating Monarchs than I could count. This year, I saw none.
Another difference: Last year milkweeds and New England asters, along with goldenrod, were abundant in these fields. This year, the goldenrod has overgrown virtually all other flowering plants here.
