Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/15/2002

Number: 1

After a lull last week, seeing only 1 or none each day, this evening the 15th, I observed good numbers. Anywhere from 3 to 8 per minute cruising into my tall cedar trees to roost. I was able to tag 6, all were fresh and bright.

Sept. 17

Counted 17 on my 30 minute drive home yesterday from Osawatomie to Richmond, monarchs continued roosting in tall cedars although not as many as the evening before. I tagged 12. Today at school we tagged 4, they paid no attention to the flowers but were resting all through the day on sugar maple trees in the shade.
