Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/21/2002

Number: 1

Today (9/22) I found 13 monarch larvae 1st and 2nd instars) along with
numerous eggs on a. currassavica in my backyard. I have been seeing one or
two a day for the past 2 weeks, and observed egg laying on these same plants
a week or so ago.
The small larvae are clustered around the flower buds where
many aphids are located. Assassin bugs are not doing the job of taking out
the aphids. Will the assassin bugs eat the monarch larvae if I pick off the
aphids?

Yesterday (9/21)2 female monarchs spent most of the day nectaring on various
flowers in the garden. These were very bright fresh vividly colored
monarchs.
I found more eggs today.
