teach "Lepidoptera Living" to First Grade students. We have received a grant last year and have planted a natural habitat for butterfly existence from egg to butterfly. We have several plants that will attract different butterflies into our garden. We now have a monarch caterpillar in our class that is getting ready for the chrysalis stage, he/she is upside down and we are just waiting. I have watched the transformation to a chrysalis three times and it is just wonderful. The caterpillar was retreived from our garden. I plan to tag the butterfly before we release it in about two weeks. We talk about the Monarch in our class quite a bit because so much geography and another culture can be incorporated into the unit of study. We also record and document the Monarchs that visit our garden site. We have worked on our symbolic migration for two weeks. The butterflies will be placed in the mail by this Friday, September 27.
