My second graders eagerly dug their holes and put their red emporer bulbs in their beds. We had fun placing our extra bulbs in experimental positions, ie. upside down, differing depth, in shade, planting 50 in all.

As one student had posed the question early on of whether color would make a difference, we had companion classes that assisted in expanding our test, 1 class added 50 white emporer bulbs and 4 classes planted 100 more variety emporer bulbs.
