Our fifth graders at Hidden Hollow Elementary have been doing regular
scheduled observations like those described by some Iowa
middleschoolers. We are just observing one morning a week, while they
are in the computer lab, so far we've only spotted a few monarchs.
Fewer than 10, between September 27 and last Friday.
Individual students have been noticing monarchs during other parts of
the day.
Generally the observations are of single butterflies or small groups of
2 or 3.
