Starr County, Texas, October 20, 2002, posted to the Texas Butterfly List by Charlie Parides and reported here with his permission: "Danaus plexipus - Monarch (10-20,000+), Fronton, (US83 and FM 650). Large migrating body at high altitude (~500+ ft) in ~500-2000 ft deep kettles. Notes: ... overhead at this location Sunday was a huge southwardly migrating body of Monarchs at high altitudes in a large configuration similar to Buteos. Total numbers were easily in the 4th range. It was as monarchs as far as you could see." Then " ... was a unique treat."
