Ms. Sally's 4th and 5th graders at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School planted 100 bulbs in a small garden out in front of our school. We each planted 5 bulbs. We also took the temperature of the soil. It was 56 degrees at planting time. Students are also each taking five bulbs to plant at home. Some of them will be planting Official Gardens and some will be planting Experimental Gardens. Some of the questions being asked are: How will heavy shade affect blooming time, what happens if the bulbs are planted upside down, what happens if they are planted at different depths, like 2 inches, 4 inches, or 12 inches, will the squirrels dig them up, or will the deer eat them when they emerge from the ground? We are looking forward to comparing the results of the experimental plantings with our Official Garden. It's been challenging to remember that we have to vary only one of the conditions for the experimental plantings. We are looking forward to seeing the results in spring. Until then
