Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 11/22/2002

Number: 1

Checked my 4 foot tall Mexican Milkweeds this morning, Nov 22. The plants are in full bloom but am battling aphids, by washing them off. I was careful to not wash off the Monarch eggs, but the eggs are strongly fastened to the undersides of the leaves, even strong water sprays do not affect them. There are 15 larvae, from first through 4th instars, and I found 1-2 eggs on almost every leaf. Continue to see adult monarchs daily, by ones and twos. Not in great numbers. Oncopeltus fasciatus, large Milkweed Bugs are quite plentiful on these plants. My home is located in west Houston at:
95 deg 39 min 47sec west long,
lat 29 deg 42 min 18 sec.
